Scenic Designer, Creative Director, and Choreographer

Born and raised on the picturesque island of Saint Lucia, Shartoya’s spark for the performing arts ignited at the age of seven. She has represented Saint Lucia at numerous international dance showcases and has performed and choreographed for national and regional events.
 

When Shartoya is not dancing or choreographing, she can be found in the theatre or the design studio. Shartoya’s interest in scenic design stemmed from her interest in music videos and her mother’s career in interior and commercial design. Her passion for design grew during her education at Towson University and the University of Maryland.

In her spare time, she enjoys philanthropy, teaching, and creative directing. Footage from Shartoya’s dance classes and concepts can be found on her YouTube channel – shr758. One of her biggest accomplishments to date is “The SHR Experience” – a multi-day workshop led by professional local and international choreographers. The SHR Experience is a platform for meaningful support for the creative community in the Caribbean. 
 
Recently, Shartoya held a position as an Adjunct Professor at her alma mater – Towson University. She believes it is important to advocate for the funding of arts education and the protection of artists of color.
